A panchang is not a slogan for the day. It is five clocks running on the same sky. The tithi is the Moon's phase relative to the Sun, thirty of them in a lunation. The vara is the weekday. The nakshatra is the Moon's mansion. Yoga and karana are the two composite limbs, easy to ignore and unwise to ignore, because Vishti karana, Bhadra, is one of the reasons a pretty nakshatra still loses.

Pocket Pandit computes these for your town and the civil date, the way a printed panchang does. Sunrise and sunset at that place cut the day into the hours people actually use: Rahu kalam, Yamaganda, Gulika, and Abhijit. Abhijit is the muhurtham around local midday that many families treat as a small safe window. It is not a magic hour. It is a defined slice.

If you read only the nakshatra you will be surprised by the engine. The surprise is the point. The limbs were always a committee. The today page lets them vote in public.
