Rohini is the Moon's favourite, in the story the puranas tell, and the favourite of anyone who has to put something in the ground. A mango sapling, a first payment on a flat, the day a couple moves a cot into an empty room: if the family has a choice of dates, Rohini is often on the short list, provided the tithi is not rikta and Rahu kalam is avoided.

The calculation is dull in the best way. The Moon's place in the sky falls in this 13°20' arc, and the panchang prints the name. Pocket Pandit reads that place from the same kind of almanac arithmetic a pandit trusts. It does not ask a chatbot to remember where Rohini was on a Tuesday in 1998.

Fertile is a traditional adjective, not a promise about crops or children. A dry year is still a dry year. The star does not water the field.
