Mrigashira, the searching star

Mrigashira is the deer's head. People associate it with looking, travelling a little, and not settling too fast.

The name means the head of the deer. In the teaching pictures, Orion's shoulder is roughly here, and Soma is the deity the lists name. A household that is comparing two cities, two schools, two dates for a trip, will not be frightened of Mrigashira. It is read as a star for inquiry.

It is a less comfortable star for a final signature on a house, in some regional habits, because the deer is still moving. Other families ignore that and look only at tithi and vara. Both habits exist. When they disagree, the honest sentence is that the sources disagree, not that one of them has been disproved by an app.

On a chart, Mrigashira's pada tells you which navamsha the Moon occupies. That is a technical quarter of the mansion. It is useful to a person who is actually reading the chart. It is not a party trick.
